In college Halloween is more than one night, its an entire weekend. Here are all the different costumes I wore!
Old Mia Thermopolis vs New Mia thermopolis
On Wednesday night I took one of my best friends to my sororities Halloween date event. We dressed up as Anne Hathaway before and after her transformation in Princess Diaries 1. I love how this turned out. We wore my friend's old school uniforms and then she curled her hair and wore glasses, while I straightened my hair and wore a tiara!
On Thursday night I was only out for about 40 minutes because I had a test the next morning. I didn't put a whole lot of effort into my outfit, which is why I went as the most basic thing: a cat. I wore leggings and a black top. Then did cat makeup with a red lip and put on some cat ears.
On Saturday I dressed up as an Alien with one of my best friends. The glitter on my face is a little different then the Alien makeup I showed in my lsat blog post. However, I am wearing the same lipstick which is linked in that post! I also wore my hair half-up-half-down, but instead of leaving the top part in a pony tail I made it into two space buns (kinda hard to see in the picture, but it looks just like my friend's hair).
So that's it for my Halloweekend outfits! I hope you all had a great Halloween too!
LOOK 1: Deer MAkeup
This look has been super popular on instagram and Pinterest so I thought I would try and recreate it! Definitely the most difficult of the two looks but I still think it turned out pretty well. Watch the video to see how I did it!
Look 2: Alien Makeup
Super easy to recreate. You could even add more by putting some glitter on your chest, arms or face too! Watch the video to see how I did it!
I got initiated into Delta Gamma on Friday! We had a Mother-Daughter brunch on Sunday and I wore this adorable baby-pink Jcrew dres. I actually found it at buffalo exhange, which is a great thrift store close to my campus!
My college has a tradition where all the fraternity boys ask girls to drive up to Dallas and see the Texas-OU game with them. Its so much fun and I was really glad I got to go this year. Part of the tradition is that when you're a freshman you paint your date a cooler. I know a lot of schools make fraternity coolers for all different occasions but this is when I made mine! I found all my ideas on Pinterest which was super helpful.
Step 1: Sand and Prime
I sanded down all sides of my cooler so that the paint would stick. Then I used a spray primer and covered everything I would be painting. I think it's a lot quicker to use spray primer then try and hand paint primer on all sides.
Step 2: Paint
I spray painted the background and then went over the top and did the details in acrylic paint. I copied all the sides from pinterest, so my inspiration in on the left and my actual cooler is on the right.

Step 3: Seal
This step is super important because you don't want your paint to start chipping off and look bad. There are all kinds of paint sealers but what I found to be super easy is to take modge podge and paint on two layers to all the sides you painted. Modge Podge starts off white but dries totally clear. Just make sure you put and even layer on all sides, because if there is more modge podge in one area it will look a little different than the rest.
Hope you found this helpful!
One fall trend I've been seeing a lot of in stores and online is velvet. No just dresses but shoes and chokers too! I really like the 90's vibes that velvet has so I put together a few examples of how I would style some affordable velvet pieces. I tried to find reasonably priced items because I am personally hesitant to drop a lot of money on a trend I'm just trying out for the first time. Hopefully this helps and inspires you all!
Miss Selfridge white cami
Miss Selfridge navy blue shirt
Topshop high waisted skirt
$37 - topshop.com
Keds olive green sneaker
Steve Madden navy boots
Humble Chic cord necklace
$8.33 - princesspolly.com
First I would pick a statement piece like the bold blue velvet crop top or booties and keep the rest of the outfit simple. I would pair it will neutrals like black and then pops of complementary colors like light pink and army green. Since velvet has a retro feel I think braids and bold lips really compliment these looks.
Boohoo bodycon dress
Kimchi Blue lace camisole
$24 - newchic.com
Adidas lace up shoes
Sam Edelman high heel shoes
$135 - neimanmarcus.com
MSGM leather handbag
$285 - luisaviaroma.com
Next, I think velvet works for a casual lunch or a cocktail party. It's all about the accessories. Boyfriend jeans and adidas all stars keep a dressy top casual enough for the day. If you are dressing up keep the velvet piece the center of attention with neutral accessories. Nude pumps and a black textured clutch add elegance but don't take away from the dress.
Hope you all liked seeing how I would wear velvet throughout the fall!
