August brings many things: sunny days, good times on the lake, snow cones & last but not least school. This summer was so amazing will all of the traveling I did (post all about it down below) that it was really hard for me to transition back into the routine of school. Just a little FAQ I am a senior in high school, I have absolutely no idea where I want to go to college, and so far this school year has been a blast! Here are some tips I've learned through out my high school career that make going back to school a lot easier!
1) GET INVOLVED/ TRY NEW THINGS:no matter how long you've been at your school you should always try to find new outlets that will help distract you from the pressure of your classes. For me this looks like joining the speech and debate team and sports medicine (two things I never would have imagined myself doing before my freshman year).
2) MAKE YOUR GRADES A TOP PRIORITY: Its really easy to be stuck in summer mode and blow off some of your first assignments. DON'T do this! Those first assignments are usually the easiest anyway that teachers use as filler grades. While it might seem easier to ignore what seems like busy work, try to resist the urge. Your future self will greatly appreciate it! As a senior whose applying to college there are many things I would have done differently with my grades that would have provided me with better opportunities or scholarships.
3) INCORPORATE 'ME TIME' INTO YOUR DAY: Always focusing on school or friends will quickly become exhausting. The best way to ensure that you remain positive and manage stress it to take sometime for yourself EVERY DAY! I have found that only leaving time for me on the weekends just doesn't cut it and it has to be apart of my daily routine. 'Me time' doesn't have to be lounging around watching the latest OITNB season, in fact its helpful if its something that gets you active and ready to study. For me this looks like going on a run (that most likely turns into a walk), playing with my dog, grabbing coffee or froyo with friends after school, and the occasional bath and Netflix binge.
Goodluck with the upcoming year! Hope this was helpful!
